Bangladesh has lost a pioneer who was progressive, innovative, and believed in the spirit of the Liberation War, the president stated in a condolence letter.

During the Liberation War, his legendary song on language movement offered the Bengali nation enormous bravery and inspiration.

President Hamid also prayed for Gaffar Chowdhury’s soul and expressed his heartfelt condolences to his lost family.

In a condolence statement, the prime minister prayed for the departed soul’s eternal rest and expressed sincere condolences to the bereaved family.

“Throughout his life, Gaffar Chowdhury worked to expose the true history of Bengal to the nation, upholding the Father of the Nation’s commitment to construct Golden Bengal and the non-communal spirit of Bangalees,” she said.

Gaffar Chowdhury’s essays in the Bangladesh Government-registered weekly ‘Joy Bangla’ supported independence fighters during the Liberation War, Sheikh Hasina added.

At 6:49 a.m. local time on Thursday, Abdul Gaffar Choudhury died of a heart arrest in a London hospital.
