Plesac, Zach Robert, is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians (MLB). In 2019, he debuted in the Major League Baseball.
Plesac was born and raised in Crown Point, Indiana, where he graduated with honors from Crown Point High School.
Plesac was a standout athlete at CPHS, participating in football, basketball, and baseball. In 2014, he began his college baseball career with the Ball State Cardinals.
He earned Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors with a 12–2 win–loss record, a 2.11 earned run average (ERA), and six saves in 25 games pitched, with six starts.
He was also selected as a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-American, a Louisville Slugger Third Team All-American, the Mid-American Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year, and a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings.
He earned All-MAC Second Team accolades in 2015 after going 5–5 with a 3.27 ERA in 16 starts. He also pitched for the Cape Cod League’s Wareham Gatemen that year, going 0–2 with an 11.88 ERA.
Zach Plesac has two siblings and is the son of Ron and Jeannie Plesac. Dan Plesac, his uncle, was a major league baseball player from 1986 to 2003. Joe Plesac, another uncle, played in the lower leagues from 1982 to 1987.
