Victor Teodoro Arano Armas is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Washington Nationals. In 2017, he debuted in the Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Arano was born in the Mexican state of Veracruz, in the town of Cosamaloapan. In April 2013, he signed as an international free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That year, he made his professional debut with the Arizona League Dodgers, where he stayed the entire season, going 3-2 with a 4.20 ERA in 13 games, eight of which were starts. He started the year with the Loons of the Great Lakes.
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired Arano as the player to be named later in an earlier deal for Roberto Hernández on August 28, 2014.
After being acquired by the Phillies, he was assigned to the Clearwater Threshers but did not pitch. He went 4-7 with a 4.08 ERA in 22 games (15 starts) with Great Lakes, striking out 83 batters in 86 innings.
He pitched for Clearwater in 2015, going 4-12 with a 4.72 ERA in 24 games (22 starts) with 69 strikeouts in 124 innings.
He had a combined 5-2 record and 2.26 ERA in 46 bullpen appearances with the Clearwater and Reading Fightin Phils in 2016, striking out 95 batters in 79.2 innings.
He was selected an All-Star in the MiLB Philadelphia Organization for 2016. Arano pitched in the Arizona Fall League after the 2016 season.
He went 1-2 with a 4.19 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 38.2 innings in 32 appearances out of the bullpen for Reading in 2017.
On September 12, the Phillies picked his contract, and he made his major league debut the same night. He was 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched for the Phillies.
