Sean Robert Doolittle (born September 26, 1986) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Washington Nationals. He was a member of the Oakland Athletics, Cincinnati Reds, and Seattle Mariners in the past.
Doolittle was drafted in the first round of the 2007 MLB draft as a first baseman and outfielder by the Athletics. In 2012, he made his Major League Baseball debut as a pitcher. In 2014 and 2018, he was named to the All-Star team.
Doolittle was born in Tabernacle Township, New Jersey, and grew up there. He lived near a baseball field and frequented there for practice. He was a pitcher in Babe Ruth Baseball.
Doolittle was a standout pitcher at Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey, where he played baseball. Shawnee won the state championship under Doolittle’s leadership.
Doolittle was a starting pitcher and first baseman at the University of Virginia. Danny Hultzen now holds the record for most victories by a Virginia pitcher in a career (22), which he previously held. He played collegiate summer baseball with the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Harwich Mariners in 2005.
