Tanner Scott Rainey is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. He was born on December 25, 1992, in the United States.
During the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, he was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the draft. In 2018, he made his major league baseball debut with the Reds.
St. Paul’s School, located in Covington, Louisiana, was Rainey’s alma mater. Both as a pitcher and a first baseman, he participated in collegiate baseball while attending Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of West Alabama.
In the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, the Cincinnati Reds selected him as a pitcher and took him in the draft.
In December of 2018, the Washington Nationals acquired him from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Tanner Roark. In 2019, he had 52 bullpen appearances and had a record of 2-3 with a 3.91 ERA.
Over the course of 48 innings, he struck out 74 hitters (13.8 per nine innings).
