Seth Daniel Romero (born April 19, 1996) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Washington Nationals (MLB).
He was picked by the Nationals in the first round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft after playing collegiate baseball for the University of Houston Cougars.
Clayton Romero wasn’t selected out of high school and played for the Houston Cougars. In 22 games as a freshman at Houston, Romero went 7–4 with a 1.94 ERA, 92 strikeouts, and seven saves.
Before his second season in 2016, he was suspended indefinitely for “team behaviour,” or inadequate physical fitness. In April 2017, Romero failed a drug test, missed curfew, and was spotted in uniform carrying a bong. Reinstated in May, he played two games before being released.
The 25th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft went to the Washington Nationals, who picked left-handed pitcher Sergio Romero.
Before the 2018 season, Romero was listed as the fifth-best Nationals prospect. The end of August 2018 saw him have Tommy John surgery; as a result, he was unable to play in 2019.
For the coronavirus-shortened 2020 season, the Nationals stated he would be a non-roster member of their 60-man “player pool.”
