Joe Ross is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB). The San Diego Padres selected Ross in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft (25th overall). In 2015 Ross made his major league debut.
To protect Ross from going over an unspecified innings restriction for the season, Williams announced September 8 that Tanner Roark, a reliever, would take his place in the rotation and Ross would be moved to the bullpen.
Ross began the 2016 season in the Nationals’ rotation, but he was sidelined for the majority of the season because of inflammation in his right shoulder.
On July 3, 2016, he was placed on the disabled list and was reinstated on September 18 of the same year. Reynaldo López, a rookie right-hander, and Ross formed a duo to pitch the first few innings of a game before López took over in long relief for the second half of the game.
Ross threw 55 pitches in 2.2 innings in Game 4 of the 2016 NLDS with the Nats leading 2–1 in the series.
