Austin Voth is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Nationals drafted Voth in the fifth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. He made his MLB debut in 2018.
It was a bad year for Voth in 2017, as his fastball velocities dropped into the mid-80s (mph) and he pitched only thirteen innings in three different seasons, with a combined ERA of 5.94, including six starts for Syracuse (6.38) and ten for Harrisburg (5.13), as well as one start for Auburn, where he allowed four hits and three runs in two innings of work.
Before the 2017 season, Voth was the eighth-best prospect in the Washington Nationals’ system according to the MLB Pipeline biannual ranking of prospects.
Voth’s fastball velocity jumped to as high as 93 mph (150 km/h) after he began strength training in the 2017-2018 offseason. As a result, he got the Syracuse Chiefs off to a good start in the 2018 season.
On April 18, 2018, he combined with three relievers to deliver a no-hitter in seven frames, and his strikeouts-per-nine-innings for Syracuse increased from 5.7 in 2017 to 10.06 in 2018. He started four games and posted a 0.96 ERA in 1823 innings of work, striking out 22 and walked only two.
