Yasel Antuna, a 21-year-old infielder, was given a contract extension by the Washington Nationals before this afternoon’s deadline.
In 2016, Antuna was signed by the Nationals to a minor league contract as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic for a reported $3.9M.
The Nationals announced their choice to include the infielder on the 40-Man roster this afternoon in a press release, stating that Antuna “is the No. 4 prospect in Washington’s Minor League organization, per Baseball America.”
Antuna is also included by Baseball America as the Nationals’ Minor League players’ “Best Hitter for Average” and “Best Power Hitter.”
Antuna has amassed a combined .247./325..353 lines, 22 doubles, five triples, and seven home runs in 138 games and 569 plate appearances over the course of his three seasons in the Nationals’ organization.
Additionally, he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2018, and after returning to play in just three games in the Gulf Coast League in 2019, he spent the summer of 2018 in Virginia.
