Yimi Garcia is a Dominican baseball pitcher who now pitches for the Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball. He formerly played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins and Houston Astros in Major League Baseball. He signed as an amateur free agent with the Dodgers in 2009 and made his MLB debut in 2014.
In 2009, Garcia became a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization after signing with them as an amateur free agent.
On September 1, 2014, he made his first appearance in the Major Leagues, playing for the Washington Nationals. In ten innings of work, he faced 10 hitters, struck out nine of them, walked one once, and allowed only two runs.
Garcia made 59 appearances with the Dodgers in 2015 and finished with a record of 3–5 and an earned run average of 3.34.
After having surgery on both his left knee and his Tommy John joint in 2017, he was out for the entirety of the baseball season. In 2018, he appeared in 25 games and had an earned run average of 5.64.
Garcia signed with the Miami Marlins on December 20, 2019. He threw 15 innings with the Marlins in 2020, striking out 19 and posting a 0.60 ERA.
Garcia has a 3.47 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 36+13 innings with the Marlins in 2021. Garcia was dealt from the Marlins to the Astros on July 28, 2021. Garcia was 1–2 with a 5.48 ERA for Houston in 2021.
He pitched 21+13 innings in 23 bullpen appearances, striking out 25. Garcia became free on November 3, 2021. Garcia signed a two-year, $11 million contract with Toronto on December 1, 2021.
