Trevor Michael Richards is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball. Richards was born on May 15, 1993.
In the past, he has been a member of the Miami Marlins, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2018, he made his first appearance with the Marlins.
Richards received his high school education at Mater Dei in Breese, Illinois. He finished his senior year in 2011 with a record of 9-1 and an earned run average of 1.07.
After graduating from high school, he attended Drury University, where he participated in collegiate baseball. In 2015, he was a senior and made 11 starts, going 5-3 with a 3.61 earned-run average.
In the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft, he was not selected by any of the MLB teams, therefore he decided to join an independent Frontier League team, the Gateway Grizzlies.
After two seasons with Memphis, Miami signed Richards in July 2016. In 2017, he won 12 games with a 2.53 ERA and 158 strikeouts for Advanced-A Jupiter Hammerheads and Double-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Richards made his MLB debut against the Red Sox on April 2, 2018.
He threw 4+3 innings, allowing 8 hits, and 5 runs (all earned) while striking out 5 and walking 1. After 20 starts, Richards was transferred to the bullpen on July 26.
Richards and Nick Anderson were dealt with by the Rays on July 31 for Jess Sánchez and Ryne Stanek. Richards was 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 19+23 innings before being moved.
The Rays traded Richards and Willy Adams to the Brewers on May 21, 2021. Richards and Bowden Francis were exchanged for Rowdy Tellez on July 6, 2021.
