Matthew James Chapman professionally called Matt Chapman is an American-born professional baseball third baseman known to play for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team.
He was born to Jim Chapman and Lisa Chapman on April 28, 1993, in Victorville, California in the United States of America. He had his high school baseball career at El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California. He was undrafted out of high school in the 2011 MLB draft so he enrolled at California State University, Fullerton where he played college baseball for the Cal State Fullerton Titans.
During the 2014 MLB draft, the Oakland Athletics drafted him in the first round of the draft. He signed with them and began playing professionally that year with the Rookie-level Arizona League Athletics. He was promoted during the season to the Class-A Beloit Snappers. In the 2015 season, he was made to spend it with the Class A-Advanced Stockton Ports.
The Athletics invited him to their major league spring training in 2016. He was promoted to the major leagues for the first time by the Athletics in 2017 and on June 15 2017 he made his MLB debut. The Toronto Blue Jays purchased his contract in March 2022. That same month, he signed a 2-year contract worth $25 million with the Blue Jays to avoid salary arbitration.
