Espinal was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on June 28, 2018, in exchange for Steve Pearce and monetary considerations.
Espinal spent the rest of 2018 with the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays and the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, hitting .297/.356/.444 with 10 home runs and 60 RBI.
Following the 2018 season, he joined the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League (AFL).
Espinal played for New Hampshire and the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in 2019, hitting.287/.347/.393 with seven home runs and 71 RBI.
After the 2019 season, Espinal was added to the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster.
He was added to the Blue Jays active roster on July 23, 2020, to begin the 2020 season, which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Espinal made his MLB debut on July 25, 2020. On July 28, Espinal recorded his first Major League hit against the Washington Nationals. Espinal batted .267 in 26 games with the 2020 Blue Jays, with no home runs and six RBIs.
Espinal hit his first career major league home run on July 3, 2021, a two-run homer off Tampa Bay Rays reliever Matt Wisler at Sahlen Field in Buffalo.
