On July 24, 2020, he rescued the Blue Jays’ first-ever game against the Tampa Bay Rays, and two days later, he appeared to be on his way to a second save against the same team, collecting two quick outs with a 4-2 lead in the ninth inning, but then utterly unraveled.
He walked the next two batters and appeared entirely out of sorts as he ran a 3-1 count on Ji-Man Choi, at which time he was removed by Brian Moran.
After two runs were scored, Moran was only able to record the final out of the inning, forcing the game into extra innings. The following day, Giles was placed on the injured list.
On September 11th, in a blowout 18-1 defeat to the New York Mets, he returned to the mound; on his first pitch back, he let up a home run to Wilson Ramos, but he settled down after that.
He returned to the injured list following a second appearance in a blowout defeat, and on September 21st, it was reported that he would need Tommy John surgery, which would lose him the whole 2021 season.
