Eugenio Alejandro Suarez is a Venezuelan professional baseball infielder who currently plays for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball. Suarez was born on July 18, 1991, in Venezuela (MLB).
He started his career with the Detroit Tigers and later played with the Cincinnati Reds. In 2018, Suarez was selected to the All-Star team.
On October 9, 2008, Suarez became an amateur player for the Detroit Tigers after signing a free-agent contract with the team.
During the years 2011 and 2012, he was a member of the Gulf Coast Tigers of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League, as well as the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League.
The Tigers’ roster of 40 players was expanded to include him on November 20, 2013. Suarez made his debut in the major leagues on June 7, 2014, when he started for the Baltimore Orioles against the Boston Red Sox.
On December 11, 2014, the Detroit Tigers sent Suárez to the Cincinnati Reds. After Zack Cozart’s season-ending injury on June 11, 2015, he took over as the Reds’ regular starting shortstop. In 2017, he batted.260 with 26 home runs and 82 RBIs.
He was selected for the 2018 All-Star Game in Major League Baseball. In the 159 games, Suárez batted.271, with 49 home runs (tied for second in the NL), 103 RBIs (tied for tenth), and struck out an MLB-high 189 times.
After an accident in the water in 2020, he received surgery on his right shoulder.
