In Major League Baseball, Eugenio Alejandro Suárez plays infield for the Seattle Mariners. He began playing for the Mariners in March 2022 after he was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Mariners.
On October 9, 2008, Suárez agreed to a deal with the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent. In 2009 and 2010, he participated for the Tigers in the Venezuelan Summer League. In 2011, he participated in games for the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League, the Gulf Coast Tigers of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League, and the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Class A Midwest League. In 2012, he was a member of the West Michigan Whitecaps.
He began the 2013 season with the Class A-Advanced Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League before being transferred to the Class AA Erie SeaWolves later in the year. On November 20, 2013, he was added to the Tigers’ 40-man roster. On June 4, 2014, he played for the Detroit Tigers in his first MLB game.
The Tigers dealt Suárez to the Cincinnati Reds on December 11, 2014. Suárez and the Cincinnati Reds came to terms on a seven-year, $66 million contract in March 2018. He was selected for the MLB All-Star Game in 2018. He was chosen for the MLB All-Stars on September 10, 2018, at the MLB Japan All-Star Series.
