Snell’s performance in 2021 showed some regression; he finished the year with a 7-6 record and a 4.20 ERA in 27 starts.

Snell initially struggled to get six innings into games; it wasn’t until his ninth start of the year that he did so. Snell tossed seven scoreless innings against the Mets on June 4 while allowing just one hit.

This came after two consecutive starts in which he failed to make it past the fourth inning. In the summer, Snell missed two starts because of food poisoning.

In his final eight starts of the season, Snell pitched well, posting a 1.83 ERA, including seven innings of no-hit ball on August 31 against the Diamondbacks.

Due to discomfort in his left adductor, he exited his start on September 12 early. He was put on the IL the next day and would not come back.
