Douglas Robert Ford Jr., MPP, is a Canadian businessman and politician who has served as Ontario’s 26th and current premier since June 2018 and as the Progressive Conservative Party’s leader since March 2018.
In the Ontario Legislative Assembly, he represents the Toronto constituency of Etobicoke North.
Ford co-owns Deco Labels & Tags with his brother Randy, a printing company based in Canada and the United States that was started by their father, Doug Ford Sr., who was a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) from 1995 to 1999.
Ford served in the Toronto city council for Ward 2 Etobicoke North from 2010 to 2014, while his brother, Rob Ford, was the mayor of Toronto.
Ford campaigned for mayor of Toronto in 2014 and came in second place behind John Tory. Ford won the PC Party’s party leadership race in 2018 and led the party to a majority victory in the 2018 Ontario provincial election. Krista, Kayla, Kara, and Kyla are Ford’s and his wife Karla (née Middlebrookfour )’s kids. Karla’s maternal ancestors were Jewish, according to him, and fled to Canada to escape persecution in Europe. Rob’s widow sued Doug and Randy in 2018 for mismanaging his estate, alleging that their actions denied her and her children adequate pay while overseeing commercial losses at Deco Labels totaling half of the company’s market worth. Doug responded by claiming that the claims were extortionate, and that the case was filed the same week as the 2018 Ontario election.
