Brent Rooker is an American professional baseball outfielder and first baseman for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2020 with the Minnesota Twins.
The Minnesota Twins selected Mississippi State University outfielder Brent Rooker with the 35th overall pick in the 2017 amateur draft. The Twins selected him in the 38th round of the 2016 draft as a redshirt sophomore, but he opted to play one more season.
The Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, he was the first baseman in college and hit.387 in his junior year with 30 doubles, 23 home runs, and 82 RBIs in 67 games.
The Elizabethton Twins and the Fort Myers Miracle were the two teams he played for during his first professional season in 2017. During his career, he pounded out a slash line of.281/.364/.566 with 18 home runs and 52 RBI.
Chattanooga Lookouts of AA in 2018 had him for a complete season and he had 130 hits in that time. He batted 254 with a.333 on-base percentage and 46 runs batted in.
For the second time in three seasons, his power numbers confirmed his status as one of the best in the game. He batted.283/.398/.535 with 14 homers and 47 RBIs.
While he spent much of his time in the minors playing in left field, he also had some time at first base.
Is Brent Rooker Injured?
After suffering a shoulder injury on April 19, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Triple-A El Paso placed Rooker on the 7-day injured list.
While it looked like he was on track to make his major league debut in 2019, injury limited him to just 65 games with the AAA Rochester Red Wings before he was forced to retire in September.
