Two innings against the San Francisco Giants on August 16, 2020 marked Kaprielian’s MLB debut. Brandon Crawford hit a home run off of him in his first at-bat, and he struck out one batter.

He spent the most of the season at the Athletics’ alternate training facility in San Jose and pitched in only two games of mop-up duty with the A’s, allowing three runs in 3.2 innings.

On May 12, 2021, Kaprielian received a call-up to make his first Major League Baseball start against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park because to rotational injuries.

With his father and uncle in attendance, Kaprielian earned the victory for the Athletics, allowing one run over five innings with six strikeouts in a 4-1 victory.

Chris Paddack, pitcher for the San Diego Padres, gave Kaprielian his first professional hit on July 27. It was a single. Kaprielian completed the 2021 campaign with an 8–5 record, a 4.07 ERA, and 123 strikeouts in 119+1/3 innings pitched.

An injury prevented Kaprielian from playing at the beginning of the 2022 season. On May 6, 2022, against the Minnesota Twins, he made his debut for the season.

Barbara Kaprielian, Kaprielian’s mother, lost her 14-year fight with breast cancer in 2014. Kaprielian is of Armenian origin.
