Major League Baseball pitcher Adrián Misael Martnez is from Mexico and now plays for the Oakland Athletics of the American League (MLB). In 2022, he made his MLB debut.
In February of 2015, Martnez signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Padres.
He pitched in the Dominican Summer League for the Padres in 2015, going 4-4 with a 4.41 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 16 13 innings of relief work.
His participation in the 2016 season was cut short due to complications from Tommy John surgery.
While pitching for the Arizona League Padres in 2017, he went 2–3 with a 4.50 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 30 innings, making him eligible to return in 2018.
A year ago, he split time between the Class A Midwest League Fort Wayne TinCaps and the Class A Short Season Northwest League Tri-City Dust Devils, with a combined record of 4–6 with a 6.690 ERA and 78 strikeouts in just 74+13 innings.
He pitched in the Class A-Advanced California League for the Fort Wayne Komets and Lake Elsinore Storm, going 7-4 with a 3.22 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 81 innings.
The minor league season for 2020 was canceled owing to the COVID 19 pandemic, hence Martnez did not play.
San Antonio Missions of Double-A Central, he was 7-3 with a 2.34 earned run average and 83 strikeouts in 80+2/3 innings during the 2021 season.
When he reached Triple-A, he was assigned to El Paso’s Chihuahuas of the West. There were 39 strikeouts in 44+1/3 innings of work by Martnez throughout his nine games with El Paso.
San Diego made Martnez one of their 40-man roster members on November 7, 2021.
Martnez and Euribiel Angeles were transferred to the Oakland Athletics on April 3, 2022, in exchange for Sean Manaea. In 2022, he began his career with the Las Vegas Aviators, where he played his first game.
He was called up to the active roster on May 10, 2022, and will make his MLB debut on that date.
