AJ Puk is a professional baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Florida Gators.
In early draft rankings, Puk was considered one of the best prospects for the 2016 MLB draft. The Athletics selected him with the sixth overall pick in the draft in the first round.
The Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League sent him to the Vermont Lake Monsters after he signed a $4,069,200 signing bonus deal. In 10 starts, he went 0–4 with a 3.03 ERA to close out the 2016 season.
Stockton Ports of the Class A-Advanced California League and the Midland RockHounds of the Class AA Texas League each had him pitch in 27 games (24 starts), with a combined 6–10 record and 4.03 ERA. Puk also tallied 184 strikeouts in 124 innings of work.
Puk underwent Tommy John surgery on April 11 of this year, and as a result, will be out for the remainder of the season. After spending the first half of the season with Midland, Puk was promoted to the Class AAA Pacific Coast League’s Las Vegas Aviators.
