Sam Selman is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels.
In Austin, Texas, Selman attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. In addition to becoming an ABCA/Rawlings All-American and a two-time all-conference pick (2008 and 2009).
A 14th-round pick by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, he chose to play collegiate baseball at Vanderbilt University instead of signing with the Major League Baseball team.
During the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals drafted him in the second round and offered him a signing bonus of $750,000.
From 2012 through 2018, Selman was a member of the Kansas City Royals organization. He was a member of the AZL Royals, Idaho Falls Chukars, Wilmington Blue Rocks, Northwest Arkansas Naturals, and Omaha Storm Chasers during his tenure with them.
The San Francisco Giants signed him to a minor-league deal in February 2019. This year, the Giants picked Selman’s contract and promoted him to the majors on August 1, 2019.
Against the Philadelphia Phillies, he made his major-league debut, pitching one inning of relief.
