Samuel Ayres Selman popularly known as Sam Selman is an Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball pitcher (MLB). He formerly played for the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Major League Baseball. Selman was born on November 14, 1990, and is currently 31 years old.
Seman gained his high school education at the St.Andrew Episcopal School in his hometown, Austin Texas. He later enrolled at Vanderbilt University where he played College Baseball. There at the University, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 14 round of the 2009 Major League Draft but he rejected the offer and continued with his education.
The Kansas City Royals selected him in the second round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, and he signed for a $750,000 signing bonus. During his stay at the City Royals, he was assigned to play for minor leagues including the AZL Royals, Idaho Falls Chukars, and others.
He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants in February 2019. The Giants picked Selman’s contract and promoted him to the major leagues on August 1, 2019. That day, he made his major league debut, pitching one inning in relief against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Selman spent the 2021 season playing for the Los Angeles Angels after he was traded to them. On March 13, 2022, he was bought off by the Oakland Athletics where he currently plays.
