Ramon Laureano garnered national headlines for an unbelievable throw on August 11th, just days after making his major league debut with the Oakland Athletics.
He ran 76 feet at full speed to grab a fly ball hit by Justin Upton of the Los Angeles Angels, then made a pinpoint accurate throw across the field to double up Eric Young Jr. at first base.
According to Statcast, the fly ball traveled 321 feet from left field to first. He soon established himself as a key member of the A’s lineup as they battled for a postseason berth.
He hit his second two-homer game of the season on September 7th, guiding the A’s to an 8-4 victory over the Texas Rangers, after the first came on August 20th against the same Rangers.
With two multi-homer games in his first 30 games, he became the first player in team history to do it. In 48 games, he hit .288 with 27 runs, 5 homers, and 19 RBIs.
In the A’s Wild Card Game against the New York Yankees on October 3rd, he started in centerfield and went 0 for 3 with a walk in a 7-2 loss.
