Cody Ryan Thomas, an outfielder for the Oakland Athletics, is an American professional baseball player. He participates in a variety of sports. At the University of Oklahoma, he participated in both baseball and football.
In Colleyville, Texas, Thomas went to Colleyville Heritage High School. As a junior, he threw for 3,057 yards and 32 touchdowns, while as a senior, he threw for 4,154 yards and 51 touchdowns.
Thomas was a four-star prospect who was considered one of the best quarterbacks in his class. To play collegiate football, he has committed to the University of Oklahoma.
Thomas was selected in the 30th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees, however he did not sign with the team.
In his freshman year at Oklahoma, Thomas was redshirted. He played in seven games and made three starts as a redshirt freshman in 2014.
He threw three touchdowns and four interceptions on 30-of-66 passing for 342 yards.
In 2015, Thomas was vying for the starting role against Baker Mayfield and Trevor Knight. Mayfield won the starting job, with Thomas filling in for three games. He retired from football in January 2016 to concentrate on baseball.
