Miguel Castro Parents: Meet Miguel Castro Sr. and Yesenia Baez

Miguel Angel Castro is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees who was born in the Dominican Republic on December 24, 1994. He has previously played for the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, and Colorado Rockies.

As an international free agent, Castro joined the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012 and was awarded a $43,000 signing bonus. With the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays, where he made his professional debut in 2012, he posted a 3-2 record, 4.73 earned run average, and 20 strikeouts in 2013 innings.

After being promoted to the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays and Bluefield Blue Jays, Castro started the 2013 campaign with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays.

He pitched 70 innings, compiling a 6-2 record, a 1.54 ERA, and 88 strikeouts.

The Webster Award, given to the top Blue Jays prospect at each minor league level, was given to him for his DSL performance.

Castro continued to advance through the minor league system in 2014, receiving promotions to the Dunedin Blue Jays, Lansing Lugnuts, and Vancouver Canadians. He pitched for 8013 innings at three different minor league levels, compiling an 8-3 record, a 2.69 ERA, and 78 strikeouts.

On April 6, 2015, against the New York Yankees, Castro made his MLB debut. He pitched 11 1/3 innings, finished the game, and the Blue Jays prevailed 6-1. Castro broke Victor Cruz’s record of being the youngest pitcher to play for the Blue Jays by becoming 20 years, 103 days old.

His record was short-lived, though, as teammate Roberto Osuna shattered it just two days later. On April 9, Castro was briefly promoted to closer after Brett Cecil’s subpar season debut.

He completed a 6-3 victory over the Yankees that night, recording his first MLB save. On April 28, Castro was reassigned to a regular relief position in the bullpen after earning 4 saves out of 6 chances. Castro was sent to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons on May 3.
