Jordan Montgomery was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 amateur draft by the New York Yankees out of the University of South Carolina. As a freshman for USC, he pitched in the College World Series in 2012.
Montgomery made his career debut in 2014 with the GCL Yankees 2 and the Staten Island Yankees, finishing 1-1, 3.79 in 10 games.
In 2015, he began the season with the South Atlantic League’s Charleston RiverDogs, going 4-3, 3.68, before being promoted to the Florida State League’s Tampa Yankees, where he went 6-5, 3.08 in 16 games.
Between the two stints, he went 10-8, 2.95 in 25 games, pitching 134 1/3 innings and striking out 132 batters.
In 2016, he split his time between the Trenton Thunder of the AA Eastern League and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the AAA International League.
He proceeded to perform admirably, finishing with a record of 14-5, 2.13 in 25 games. He struck out 134 batters in 139 1/3 innings of work.
