Jordan Blackmon Montgomery (born December 27, 1992), better known by his nickname “Gumby,” is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees.
In 2017, he made his MLB debut. Montgomery played college baseball for the South Carolina Gamecocks before turning pro. Montgomery, who stands 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall and weighs 225 pounds (102 kg), throws and bats left-handed.
Montgomery was taken 122nd overall in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees.
He received a $424,000 signing bonus when he joined the Yankees.
After the college season, he pitched for the Gulf Coast Yankees of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League and the Staten Island Yankees of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League, posting a 1–1 record with a 3.79 ERA in 19 innings.
In 2015, he started the season with the Class A South Atlantic League’s Charleston RiverDogs. In June, the Yankees assigned him to the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League’s Class A Advanced division.
Montgomery began the 2016 season with the Class AA Eastern League’s Trenton Thunder before being promoted to the Class AAA International League’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in August. He earned the win in the Triple-A National Championship Game.
Montgomery began the 2019 season on the 60-day disabled list, still recovering from surgery from the previous year. On September 15, he rejoined the Yankees.
Montgomery had a 5.11 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched in 2020, and he led all AL pitchers with three errors on defense. Montgomery has a 6–7 record with a 3.83 ERA in 157+13 innings in 2021.
