He has previously played for the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays, and Oakland Athletics. After playing collegiate baseball at Auburn University, he was first selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 2007 MLB Draft.
In 2010, Donaldson made his Major League Baseball debut with the Athletics as a catcher. As he developed with the organization, he switched to third base and finally was named an All-Star in the 2014 MLB season.
