Hader began the 2020 season on a roll, erasing his bad performance from the previous postseason. In his first nine appearances, he did not allow a single hit in 9 1/3 innings, struck out 13 batters, and issued 5 walks while recording 7 saves.

On September 2nd, he reached a record 12 consecutive appearances since the beginning of the season, breaking a tie with three others:

Justin Wilson in 2017, Scott Aldred in 1999, and John Franco in 1987. However, the run included a difficult outing on August 29 against the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he walked five of the six batters he faced and was credited with a failed save.

In 12 games, he had a 1.54 ERA with 9 saves, 18 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 11 2/3 innings. He finished the season with a record of 1-2, a 3.79 ERA, 31 strikeouts in 19 innings, and an NL-leading 13 saves.

His colleague, rookie set-up man Devin Williams, earned both the Trevor Hoffman Award and the Rookie of the Year award that season.

In his lone appearance in the Wild Card Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who swept the Milwaukee Brewers in two games, he did not allow a run over 1 1/3 innings while making his third consecutive postseason appearance.
