Topa was a student and a stand-out baseball player at the Chenango Valley High School, where he led his team to Section 4 Class-B championships in 2008 and 2009.
He was named All-Conference and third-team All-State as a pitcher and All-Division as a second baseman. He also participated in golf, hockey, and basketball.
