The Kansas City Royals selected Santa Rosa Junior College’s Bender with the 613th overall choice in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. For the Rookie League Arizona League Royals, Bender made his professional debut.

Bender signed on with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association for the 2020 campaign when the minor league season was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
In 2020, Bender pitched for the Milkmen, posting a 5.48 earned run average (ERA) and striking out 25, and helping the team win the American Association title. Bender chose free agency on November 2, 2020.
