Thomas Andrew Nance is an American Major League Baseball pitcher who plays for the Miami Marlins (MLB). In 2021, the Chicago Cubs gave him his first MLB game.
Nance went to high school in Long Beach, California, at Woodrow Wilson High School. In high school, he broke his back because of stress.
He went to Long Beach State, Cypress College, and Santa Clara for college and played baseball there. After his senior year of college, he had surgery to fix a problem with his elbow.
In 2015, Nance left Santa Clara University without being picked in the draft. He then joined the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League.
Nance pitched in 29 games and had a 4.74 ERA, a 1–1 record, and a 1.421 WHIP. He struck out 40 batters in 38 innings and had a 1.421 WHIP.
On January 18, 2016, the Chicago Cubs organization bought Nance’s contract.
He played for the Low-A Eugene Emeralds, the Single-A South Bend Cubs, the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and the Triple-A Iowa Cubs during the 2016 season. In 22 games with all four teams, he went 4–1 and had an ERA of 2.58.
After a nerve injury in his shoulder was found, he was hurt and didn’t play in any games in 2017.
He played in Double-A with the Tennessee Smokies in 2018. In 15 games, he had an earned run average (ERA) of 3.48. He pitched in Tennessee and Myrtle Beach in 2019.
He had a 2–5 record, a 4.07 earned run average, and 56 strikeouts in 48.2 innings.
