Jimmy Herget, full name Jimmy Matthew Herget is an American-born professional baseball player known to play in the major leagues as a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels baseball team.
Jimmy grew up in Tampa in Florida. He played baseball for his high school at Jefferson High School in Tampa. When he completed high school, he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB draft but he did not sign with them and chose to play college baseball at the University of South Florida.
Whiles in college, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was drafted out of college by the Cincinnati Reds in the 22nd round of the 2015 MLB draft. He signed with the Reds and was assigned to play with the Billings Mustangs to begin his professional career.
The Reds assigned him during 2016 to spend the season with the Daytona Tortugas. He played between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Louisville Bats in 2017. He made it to the Red’s 40-man roster after the 2018 season and played for Louisville in 2019.
He made his MLB debut for the Reds on July 7 2019. In December 2019, he was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers. He spent two seasons with the Rangers and became a free agent in August 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels that same month.
