The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed Jared Walsh as a two-way player.
Born in Brookfield, a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Walsh is the son of a doctor and a lawyer. To date in 2019, he was the lone major leaguer from Brookfield.
The University of Georgia served as both his high school and college education. He played both as a pitcher and a hitter at the University of Georgia, pitching in 35 of the 124 games he appeared in.
After being picked in the 39th round of the 2015 amateur draft, he hit over.300 with power in both rookie league and A+ level baseball.
He played AA ball for the Mobile BayBears for parts of two seasons and AAA ball for the Salt Lake Bees for parts of two seasons (till 2019).
While he did make a few appearances in the minors as a pitcher, most of his time was spent at first base.
On the 15th of May, 2019, Jared made his big league debut. At the first base and as a pitcher, he appeared in eight of his first ten games in the major leagues.
To put it another way, he appeared in 34 games, 24 of which were at first base, seven as a pinch-hitter, and five in the bullpen.
With one home run and five RBI, he slugged .203 with one strikeout in five innings on the mound. While playing for Salt Lake City in the minors, he smashed 36 home runs in 98 games.
In 2020, he was entirely employed as a position player, despite the fact that his bat initially seemed to be quite quiet.
After being demoted to the Angels’ alternate training camp for most of August, he was still without a hit for the season. In the last month, with his club out of contention, he was granted consistent playing time at first base.
