American first baseman and outfielder Jared James Walsh, born July 30, 1993, plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball.
Walsh played baseball for the University of Georgia while attending Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia. He was a league all-star in 2013 while playing college baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
In the 39th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, the Los Angeles Angels chose him.
Walsh played for the Arizona League Angels and Orem Owlz during his debut season as a professional.
He played for the Burlington Bees in 2016, the Inland Empire 66ers and Mobile BayBears in 2017, and the Salt Lake Bees in 2018. In 2018, he also made eight relief pitching appearances.
Walsh was welcomed by the Angels to spring training in 2019 and was still used as a two-way player there.
To start 2019, he went back to Salt Lake. His contract was chosen on May 15, 2019, and he was promoted to the main leagues. On that day, he played against the Minnesota Twins in his debut and went 3 for 4.
Walsh’s walk-off bloop RBI single against the Texas Rangers on May 26 marked the first RBI of his career. Despite only appearing in 32 games in 2020, Walsh batted.293/.324/.646 and was second on the team in home homers.
Joe Maddon, the manager of the Angels, stated before the 2021 season that the team did not intend to have Walsh pitch and were instead opting to concentrate on his offense and defense, in large part owing to his performance as a first baseman the previous season.
