He was born to Joe Ward and Samantha Ward on December 14, 1993, in Dayton, Ohio in the USA. He was a baseball player during his high school days. He attended Shadow Hills High School in Indio, California. He then continued at Fresno State University where he played college baseball for the baseball team.
Whiles in college, Taylor played collegiate summer baseball in 2014 with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League. During the 2015 MLB draft, the Los Angeles Angels selected him in the 1st round of the draft.
He signed with them and made his professional debut that year after he was assigned to play with the Orem Owlz. He earned a promotion that season to play with the Burlington Bees where he was named a Pioneer League Mid-Season All-Star. In the 2016 minor league season, he was named an Arizona Fall League 2016 Rising Star and a MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star.
He was promoted to the major leagues for the first time on August 14, 2018, and made his MLB debut that day for the team.
