Seth Martinez is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). Martinez played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils. He made his MLB debut in 2021.
Martinez was born in Sierra Vista, Arizona, where he also spent his childhood. He received his education at Sunrise Mountain High School, where he participated in the sports of baseball and golf.
Over the course of his four years pitching for the varsity team, he amassed a record of 19-4 with a 2.86 earned run average and 172 strikeouts in 144 innings pitched. Martinez spent three of his college baseball seasons playing for the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team.
As a rookie, he appeared in both the starting rotation and the bullpen, and as a sophomore, he began the season as Arizona State’s mid-week starter before being promoted to the team’s number one starter after seven appearances in the rotation.
Martinez finished his junior year with a record of 9-4, a 2.75 earned run average, 94 strikeouts, and 111.1 innings pitched. He was recognized by Louisville Slugger as a member of the first-team All-Pac-12 Conference and the second-team All-American.
