Phillip Louis Maton III is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Houston Astros. At Louisiana Tech University, he played baseball.
Maton was chosen in the 20th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the San Diego Padres. In 2017, he debuted in the major leagues.
He has previously played for the Padres and the Indians of Cleveland.
Maton played college baseball for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs after attending Glenwood High School in Chatham, Illinois.
Maton was chosen in the 20th round of the 2015 MLB draft by the San Diego Padres.
That year, he made his pro debut with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Short Season-A league. Maton went 4–2 with a 1.38 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 322/3 innings pitched in 23 bullpen appearances.
Maton pitched for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas, Class-A Fort Wayne TinCaps, and Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm in 2016.
In 38 appearances for the three teams, he went 5–3, had a 1.74 ERA, and 78 strikeouts in 513 innings.
Following the season, he joined the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League. Maton started the 2017 season with El Paso of the Triple-A level.
