The Houston Astros drafted Texas Tech’s Mushinski in the 7th round of the MLB draft. As a native of Arlington, Texas, he kept a pair of cowboy boots in his locker at T-Mobile Park, which was only fitting.
For Mushinski’s debut in Seattle, his family included his parents, two siblings, two aunts, and an uncle.
Mushinski was invited to major league spring training as a non-roster player and went on to strike out six batters in four innings in the Grapefruit League.
Prior to his promotion, Mushinski threw 4 2/3 innings for Sugar Land and struck out five batters without allowing an earned run.
In 83 minor league outings, Mushinski has a WHIP of 1.277 and an ERA of 3.27.
It’s never up to us whether you move up or down in the minors,” Mushinski said. “In the minor levels you throw as well as you can.”
To be honest, I’m just grateful that my coworkers have been around for so long.” Injuries and other difficulties have made it difficult for me, but I’m getting there. “It’s been a pleasure to work with all of these people,” I said.
