A 3.78 earned run average in nine starts and six relief appearances for Parker Mushinski has impressed the Astros this season.
It isn’t out of the question that Mushinski will make it to the Major Leagues as a bullpen replacement for the Astros as they make their way to the playoffs this season.
He was selected in the 2017 MLB draft by the Astros after posting a 2.39 earned run average (ERA) in 31 appearances for the Red Raiders last year and a 2.03 earned run average (20 appearances) in 2016.
As a member of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Mushinski appeared in exactly one game, a disappointing one in 2015.
With Mushinski as a long-term rotation piece, it’s hard to see him making it into the big leagues as a pitcher in the bullpen right now.
Kilian and Jung are currently on poor clubs with easy paths to the big leagues, with Jung’s .300 batting average at Frisco and Kilian’s 2.45 ERA in 18 starts this season.
Mushinski, on the other hand, has the potential to make a significant impact this season. Given the Astros’ position in the standings and the number of innings, Mushinski would play in the process.
