This season, the Astros have been impressed by Parker Mushinski, who has a 3.78 ERA in nine starts and six relief outings.
It isn’t out of the question that Mushinski will make it to the Major Leagues as a bullpen replacement for the Astros on their path to the playoffs in AAA.
As a Red Raider, Mushinski tallied a 2.03 ERA in 20 appearances in 2016 and a 2.39 ERA in 31 appearances in 2017.
He was selected by the Astros in the 2017 MLB draft. Mushinski appeared in only one game as a Red Raider, a dreadful one in 2015.
Short-term prospects for Mushinski appear to be limited to the bullpen, but the long-term prospects for him as a rotation player are undeniable.
The two former Red Raiders, Jung and Kilian, are now on bad teams with easy paths to the Major Leagues thanks to their impressive batting averages and 2.45 ERAs this season.
Mushinski, on the other hand, has the potential to make a big difference this season. Mushinski would have earned a lot of innings if he were to start for the Astros.
