Thomas Ryan Pressly is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Houston Astros (MLB). He was also a member of the Minnesota Twins of the Major League Baseball.
Pressly was drafted in the 2012 Rule 5 draft by the Minnesota Twins after being taken in the 11th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox.
He made his MLB debut with the Twins in 2013. In 2018, Pressly was dealt to the Houston Astros by the Minnesota Twins.
With 40 scoreless appearances in 2019, he established a major league record. In both 2019 and 2021, he was an MLB All-Star.
Pressly grew up in Irving, Texas, where he was born. Tom Landry, the former coach of the Dallas Cowboys, knew his grandfather, Tito Nicholas. From an early age, Pressly was mentored by Steve Busby, a retired Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher.
For the first three years of high school, Pressly went to American Heritage Academy in Carrollton, Texas. For the school’s baseball team, he was a standout pitcher and shortstop, leading the conference in 23 offensive categories.
Pressly was a defensive back in American football, in addition to baseball. When he was tackled after an interception during a football game, he tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee.
His football career was cut short, and his baseball career was jeopardized.
