Joseph John Matijevic, professionally called J.J Matijevic plays professional baseball as a first baseman for the Houston Astros baseball team of Major League Baseball (MLB). Matijevic is 1.83 m tall and weighs 91 kg.
Matijevic grew up in Pennsylvania where he was born on November 14, 1995, in the city of Latrobe. He had his high school amateur career at Norwin High School located in North Huntingdon in Pennsylvania. After high school, the Boston Red Sox selected him to play as a shortstop in the 22nd round of the 2014 MLB Draft but he did not sign with them.
Instead, he chose to play college baseball for the Arizona Wildcats at the University of Arizona. He also played collegiate summer baseball in 2015 and 2016 for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League where he was named a league all-star in 2015.
When he finally graduated from college, the Houston Astros drafted him in the 2017 MLB Draft. He signed with the Astros and was given $700,000 as a signing bonus. He made his professional debut that year with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League. He made his MLB debut on April 22, 2022, for the Astros.
