American third baseman Joseph Perez, popularly known as Joe Perez plays for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB).
In 2022, he made his MLB debut. He was born on August 12, 1999, in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Perez attended Southwest Ranches, Florida’s Archbishop McCarthy High School. He batted.526 with nine home runs and 37 runs batted in (RBIs) as a senior. He also pitched well, going 4–0 with a 1.88 earned run average (ERA) and 40 strikeouts.
In the second round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, the Houston Astros selected him. He signed, abandoning his plan to play college baseball for Miami University.
Perez made his major league debut with the Gulf Coast Astros in 2018, batting.364 in 11 at-bats. In 2019, he played for the Tri-City ValleyCats, hitting.188 over 50 games with seven home runs and 27 RBIs.
He didn’t play for a team since the COVID-19 epidemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 Minor League Baseball season. Perez began 2021 with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers before moving up to the Corpus Christi Hooks and Asheville Tourists.
He had a slash line of.293/.354/.495 over 106 games for the three teams, hitting 18 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 34 doubles. On November 19, 2021, Perez was added to the 40-man roster after the season.
The Astros promoted Perez to the main leagues for the first time on April 8, 2022, and that evening he made his MLB debut.
