Jacob Timothy Bird, known professionally as Jake Bird, is a baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball. Bird wears jersey #59 as plays the position of a relief pitcher for the team. He was born on December 4, 1995, and is currently 26 years old.
Bird gained his high school education at West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, California. In his senior year of high school, he decided to enroll at UCLA, where he pitched to a 1.55 ERA over 58 innings. He enrolled at UCLA after not being drafted in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.
Bird made his professional debut with the Grand Junction Rockies of the Rookie-level Pioneer League, going 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA over 26+2/3 innings worked in relief. He then signed a contract with the Rockies.
He received All-Star recognition in 2019 while pitching for the Class A South Atlantic League’s Asheville Tourists, where he went 7–2 with a 3.62 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 97 innings.
He began the 2021 season with the Hartford Yard Goats of the Double-A Northeast, then in early June was sent to the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Triple-A West.
On June 11, 2022, the Rockies signed Bird to a contract and promoted him to the major leagues. He pitched one scoreless inning in relief against the Cleveland Guardians on June 16.
