Jacob Timothy Bird was born on December 4, 1995, to his mother Heidi Bird, and his father Joel Bird. Jake Bird is the name he uses in his professional career in baseball. Bird is a baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball.
Bird is an American as he was born and raised in Newhall, California in the United States. West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, California, is where Bird completed his high school education.
He made the decision to attend UCLA in his final year of high school, where he pitched to a 1.55 ERA over 58 innings. After getting passed over for the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, he enrolled at UCLA.
Also with Grand Junction Rockies of the Rookie-level Pioneer League, Bird made his professional debut, finishing 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA over 26+2/3 innings pitched in relief.
He was chosen by the Colorado Rockies in the fifth round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. After the season the Rockies then offered him a deal.
He was named an All-Star in 2019 while pitching for the Asheville Tourists of the Class A South Atlantic League, going 7–2 with a 3.62 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 97 innings.
He began the 2021 season with the Hartford Yard Goats of the Double-A Northeast, then in early June was sent to the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Triple-A West.
