A free agent defensive end in American football, Adam Oneal Butler was born on April 12, 1994. At Vanderbilt, he played collegiate football.

Butler attended Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas. Butler is a direct descendant of the children’s rights activist Edna Gladney. He served as the Duncanville Panthers’ football team’s two captains and was named MVP during his senior year.

On May 5, 2017, Butler agreed to a contract with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent.  He won a spot on the Patriots’ 53-man roster after making an impression during training camp and the preseason that summer.

He played in the Patriots’ home debut of the regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs, seeing 21 snaps and recording a tackle in a 42-27 defeat.

Butler made one tackle for the Patriots in their 41-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, which they won.

On April 17, 2020, Butler re-signed with the Patriots on a restricted free agent contract for one year. Butler and the Miami Dolphins agreed to a two-year contract on March 18, 2021.

Butler was discharged as a result of a failed physical on August 2, 2022.
