Adrián Misael Martnez is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Oakland Athletics (MLB). In 2022, he made his MLB debut.



Martnez signed as an international free agent with the San Diego Padres in February 2015.

He pitched for the Dominican Summer League Padres in 2015, posting a 4.41 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 16+13 innings. After Tommy John surgery, he missed the 2016 season.



In 2017, he returned to the Arizona League Padres, where he went 2–3 with a 4.50 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 30 innings.

He divided the 2018 season between the Class A Midwest League’s Fort Wayne TinCaps and the Class A Short Season Northwest League’s Tri-City Dust Devils, going 4–6 with a 6.90 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 74+13 innings.

He spent the 2019 season between Fort Wayne and the Class A-Advanced California League’s Lake Elsinore Storm, finishing 7–4 with a 3.22 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 81 innings.

Martnez did not play in 2020 since the minor league season was canceled owing to the COVID 19 pandemic.

He started the 2021 season with the Double-A Central’s San Antonio Missions, going 7–3 with a 2.34 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 80+23 innings.

He was then promoted to the Triple-A West league’s El Paso Chihuahuas. Martnez went 1–2 with a 5.28 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 44+13 innings for El Paso in 9 games.

 

Martnez was added to San Diego’s 40-man roster on November 7, 2021.

 

Martnez was traded to the Oakland Athletics for Sean Manaea on April 3, 2022, along with Euribiel Angeles. With the Las Vegas Aviators, he began the 2022 season.

 

He was recalled to the active roster on May 10, 2022, to make his MLB debut.
